Alivecor produces a mobile electrocardiogram (ECG) recorder. Two electrodes fused to an iPhone case take readings from skin and an application records the output. Data is transformed into online reports that can be stored and automatically sent to doctors. The device is yet to achieve professional approval but is expected to sell for around $100.
The device was invented by Dr David Albert in 2011. He has partnered with Oregon Scientific to manufacture the units.
Competition to Alivecor phone till now is a smartphone that doubles as an ECG machine: EPI Life. The phone was launched last year in Singapore and is priced around $1,200.
